Yes, you can write them.
No, they don’t have to remove it.
After all, you *did* settle. That’s the whole point of a credit history, to show both the good and the bad.

You can’t stop them from reporting accurate information. You can only dispute erroneous information. Settling a debt does not mean that it gets erased from your record.

Yes if you have settled the account it has been resolved, I hope you kept the letter of settlement and the copy of check/ money order/ cashiers check you sent them to prove you paid it. If they are reporting it as new debt then you contact them and demand they retract it and send them a copy of it. If its a old report that its been settled then you can not do anything about it. Just remember these are scum of the earth people you are dealing with it, they don’t care about your life or if you paid it before they will keep trying to collect after you have paid the debt. Do not act nicey nice with them be firm, if you have to you may have to sue them under the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act threaten it if you have to. You are the only one that can deal with this, always always keep copies of everything you do with them.

You can ask, but they will not be able to stop. By law, they are required to report all information, the good, the bad, and the fugly. Even though a settlement was made, the history on the account still occurred and must be reported as such. In other words, it all got cleared up, but it still happened.
To report the good info and not report the bad info would be considered fraud. This would be the same thing as you going into a bank lying on the loan application.
The exception to the rule would be if there are incorrect listings on your credit report. You can dispute those items with the credit bureaus and have them removed. Those 3 instituions are: Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.
The good news is that nothing stays on your credit report beyond 10 years, so if you work now to begin reestablishing your credit in the best way you can, eventually, those things will begin to drop off your credit report anyways, and when they do, you can really get a much better credit score within 6 months.

Ask lenders for agreement to delete this items from your credit report when paying them. I recommend to get such agreement thru credit repair agency, for example this one – credit-report-free.totalh.com
